Yes, the Mimamsaka (and hence the Vedantin) insists you look at the words
and not try and second-guess based on "evolving knowledge" or anything 
like that.

The word go means cow.  If you have seen 1000 cows, is your knowledge of 
"cow" more "evolved" than someone who has seen 1 cow?
