@kalyan, In Adi shankara's sutra bhashya, brahman is said to be 'jna'(sanskrit) i.e., pure knowledge as against 'jnatri'-knower(ramanuja's bhashya). This is because self knows the self through self. Or we can say the self is both knower and the known. In that case, it is pure knowledge.
