Namaste,
Posting my understanding which stands for correction, Sada Ji.
1)Vedanta study is not sufficient, One has to experience it. What does that mean?
Like electricity would pass only if the material is conductible, the human mind has to be 'satva guna pradhaana' for the subtle 'vedaanta' to sink in and enable him to realise the already 'liberated state'. In that sense one should possess the wealth of  'sadhana chatushtayam' apart from 'vedaanta'.
As the space covers in entirety the pot and the pot space are already 'liberated'. One may experience many things but 'liberation' is already 'experienced, experiencing and will continue'  24*7. The only one which is not a 'known' and 'knowable' is the subject 'SELF' only. No objectification.

2)Some say it is object-less awareness - Is that possible?

No. One can only turn one's 'attention' to the already experiencing 'awareness'. It is understanding the 'vrutti' of understanding itself ! It's the 'SUBJECT' himSELF ! - NOT an object.
3)What exactly means nirvikalpaka samaadhi - Is that required for self-realization.

SELF stands already realised. Experiences, including the 'nirvikalpaka samaadhi' are not negated, but are not considered as 'SELF realisation' as every vrutti is 'dvaitam' - a division of 'experiencer' and 'experienced'; whereas 'brahman' is 'akartha' and 'abhoktha'
4)What is akhandaakaara jnaana vRitti means?

It is the unitary, unfragmented state of the mind. This happens when the mind is cleansed of all impurities and one sees no difference between him and the world as the 'mahAvAkyAs' are instructed to him by a Guru who is a 'shrotriiya brahmanishta'.
Regards
Balagopal

     PraNAms to all

Some topics for discussion - all centered on self-realization.

Some say - Vedanta study is not sufficient, One has to experience it. What does that mean?

Some say it is object-less awareness - Is that possible?

What exactly means nirvikalpaka samaadhi - Is that required for self-realization.

What is akhandaakaara jnaana vRitti means?

Currently I am doing the 9th Chapter of Panchadashi - where Vidyaranya talks about - nirguna brahma upaasana - which may be Oxymoron.

Just some thoughts to ponder.
