Dear Anand Ji,                           Please advise as per dharmasindhu for the people of northern india, whether they can use the ata (Godhuma pindi) for Pitru trapana ?. I too observed people here using the Yagnnopavita change as prachinavaiti without tila, How far it is correct? pls suggest & advise so that i can rectify their mistakes.
Namaskaraha!

As the Dharmasindhu says, the jIvatpitRka, i.e. one whose father is living,
should use water mixed with yava (barley, which, in practice, in the South
is substituted with white rice grains), and offer tarpaNa with the
devatIrtha (not pitRtIrtha), and savya position of the yajnopavIta.
jIvatpitRkastu yavair-devatIrthena savyena kuryAt. In contrast, others
would be using tila (black sesame) for tarpaNa and with apasavya and
pitRtIrtha.
