I don't know abot Nisargadatta Maharaj.  Ramana
Maharshi did recommend his disciples to study the
bhagavad-gIta, among other works. He also liked the
Ribhu-gIta. He has referred to several traditional
Advaita texts. Refer to this URL for further info.
