Namaste Sri Vishal,

Doesn't Narada refer to Itihasa-Purana as the fifth branch of knowledge he
has learnt apart from the four vedas, in the Chandogya Upanishad? I was
thinking of this.

Sruti smRti purANAnAm Alayam karuNAlayam
namAmi bhagavatpAda Sam.karam lokaSam.karam
