[Advaita-l] Meaning of Mithya

Dear Members,

Can someone kindly explain the meaning of the word mithya,as it appears in "Brahma satyanm jagat mithya"? Does it mean false? or Does it mean illusory? I believe the meaning has evolved over the years since Sankaracharya - is this correct? Awaiting inputs,
