No brahmasakshatakakara _is_ realization. Vedantic knowledge (be careful
of that word mere -- a lot of mischief is caused by it) is the means.

Vairagya. Renunciation of all that is anatma. Bhakti, upasana, yoga,
karmayoga etc. increase the feeling of vairagya.
