Namaste,
I read a Sanskrit verse long ago but do not remember the exact text nor have the details of its source. According to that verse the Lord accepts the Naivedya with netra (eyes) and tastes it through the palate of the bhaktas. That is why the Prasadam is shared among the bhaktas.
As regards the offering becoming ucchishta we have the story of Sabari offering fruits to Lord Ram, after tasting those herself. The shraddha and bhakti elements in the naivedya has the overwhelming presence in the naivedya.
Regards,
Sunil KB

Basaveswara says
"Lord! I wanted to bring waters from Ganges for your abhisheka. But the
fish
and frogs in Ganges said that the water is polluted by them.
What shall I do O! Lord?
Lord! I wanted to collect Tummi flowers for your puja. But innumerable bees
hovering
about the branches say that the flowers are polluted by them.
What shall I do O! Lord?
Lord! I wanted to bring cow's milk for your nivedana. But the calves say
that the milk is polluted by them.
What shall I do O! Lord?
