धीः is generally buddhi. In one place Shankara explains धीमान् as
बुद्धिमान्. Here is another example from Br.up. 4.4.29 bhashyam:
तमेव *धीरो* विज्ञाय प्रज्ञां कुर्वीत ब्राह्मणः ।
नानुध्यायाद्बहूञ्छब्दान्वाचो विग्लापनं हि तदिति ॥ २१ ॥
भाष्यम्
तम् ईदृशमात्मानमेव, *धीरः धीमान्* विज्ञाय उपदेशतः शास्त्रतश्च,
चैतन्यम् is Pure Consciousness. धीः can be differentiated from the earlier
word as chaitanyam with some object, that is, vṛtti jnānam.
Here is another example to appreciate the word 'dhīḥ, from the Panchadashi
8.1:
खादित्यदीपिते कुड्ये दर्पणादित्यदीप्तिवत् ।
कूटस्थभासितो देहो *धीस्थजीवेन* भास्यते ॥ १॥
1. Just as a wall illumined by the rays of the sun is more illumined when
the light of the sun reflected in a mirror falls on it, so the body
illumined by Kutastha is more illumined *by the light of Kutastha reflected
in the intellect (Chidabhasa).*
Here 'dhīḥ' means 'mind/manas/buddhi. The chaitanyam reflected in the
buddhi (dhīḥ) is called chidābhāsa, jīva.
