I have not followed these discussions. Just read Bhaskar's out of curiosity. Here are some considerations;
1. One can perhaps know that the other person has understood shatras - if one considers that as shotriya.
2. One cannot know if the other person is Brahma NishTa or not. Brahma nishta is not a discrete process but occurs slowly as the obstacles for the abiding knowledge slowly get dissolved. Hence as Swami Paramarthanandaji puts it is FIR reduction - The frequency of perturbation from the abiding knowledge, I - the intensity of perturbation and R- recovery time from perturbation - they slowly go down as one abides in the knowledge or one becomes Brahma Nishta. Hence only the individual knows if he is Brahma NishTa.
3. The one who is Brahma NishTa will not declare he is one since other cannot judge - it is left to the faith of the others to recognize that my teacher is Brahma NishTa so that one has faith in the teaching
4. Brahman Nishta does not really care if others recognize him as Brahman Nishta or not. Hence it is mute discussion from his point. It does not matter what he wares or goes about.
5. The rest is only preparation for the purification of the mind and not get confused with the goal.
na yogena na saakheyna karmaNaa no na vidyayaa
brahmaatmaika bodhena mokshaH sidhyati na anyathaa| - says Vivekachudamani.

Hare Krishna
Thank you all for your thoughtful
insights. It seems from the posts that external appearance
of a shrOtriya hardly a matter of concern when he is pure
inside
and hardcore follower of traditional values on regular
basis if not full time. But the question still remain
open, how many of us, who have our own preconceptions of
looks of shrOtriya-s & brahmanishTa-s ready to accept
a person wearing modern attire as
shrOtriya and brahmanishTa and treat him as our
‘guru’?? My mischievous mind asks some time how many of
us would really recognize Acharya, sages and saints like
bhagavatpAda, rAmakrishna, ramaNa, vivekaananda etc. if at
all they want to come back in disguise
to test our purity and Shraddha J Why to go to that level, even if
our regular kula purOhit, who
we always used to see with kaccha pancha and upaveeta, seen
somewhere with modern attire don’t we be ruthless in our
judgement of his character & behavior?? Anyway,
kindly don’t take trouble to convince this mind, it will
always be like that posing stupid
questions due to lack of purity.
Hari Hari Hari Bol!!!
