In fact there is a Kumbhakonam edition that the Madhvas follow. The Shiva
Sahasra nama that occurs there (and is commented upon by Nilakantha) is
admissible to them.
Also, other instances, for example, Ganapathi employed by Veda Vyasa as the
scribe is also admitted by Madhvas. This event is not in the critical
edition, as I understand. Other events like Rama worshiping Ganapati just
before building the bridge is also admitted by them despite its not being
in the VR. Krishna instructs Yudhisthira to worship Ganapati. This is also
admitted by them. I am just pointing out instances that there are varied
opinions.
