[Advaita-l] Meaning and significance of mantra

Namaste Raghav ji,
In this context, I recall reading in deivattin kural, a collection of
speeches by HH Sri chandrashekharendra sarasvati svAminah, the erstwhile
maThAdhipati of the kAnchi maTha, that the period after utsarjana was to be
devoted to studying the vedAngas.

The manusmriti says that veda adhyayana may continue even in the period
after utsarjana during the shukla paksha of each month, with vedAngas
studied in the krishna paksha.

To a certain extent, this is moot because if veda adhyayana itself is not
happening, to do prAyashcitta for not doing utsarjana during the
anadhyayana kAla is like a criminal seeking pardon for not obeying traffic
rules while fleeing from a heist.

Kind regards,
Venkatraghavan
