In the third verse of the Bhujanga prayata stotram, Shankara says:

Yada Varnayat Karnamoole Anthakaale,
Shivo *Rama Ramethi Ramethi Kaasyam*,
Thadekam Param Tharaka Brahma Roopam,
Bhajeham, Bhajeham, Bhajeham, Bhajeham. 3

that Shiva whispers the 'Rama' taaraka mantra in the ears of those who die
in Kaashi. Actually the name 'Rama' is given etymologically which means
Nirguna Brahman:

ॐ यो ह वै *श्रीरामचन्द्रः स भगवानद्वैतपरमानन्द* आत्मा । यः
सच्चिदानन्दाद्वैतैकचिदात्मा भूर्भुवः सुवस्तस्मै वै नमो नमः ॥
