Somewhere I read an altogether different interpretation than the usual one,
of the Ahalya episode. Be it so. In the Kaivalyopanishat we have:
स ब्रह्मा स शिवः सेन्द्रः सोऽक्षरः परमः स्वराट् | स एव विष्णुः स प्राणः स
कालोऽग्निः स चन्द्रमाः || 8 ||
Shankara cites this mantra in the Vishnu Sahasra Nama bhashya saying that
this is a teaching of abheda. We find Indra and Agni too here. Also in
the famous:
ओ३म् इन्द्रं मित्रं वरुणमग्निमाहुरथो दिव्य: स सुपर्णो गरुत्मान् |. एकं
सद्विप्रा बहुधा वदन्त्यग्निं यमं मातरिश्वानमाहु: ||. ऋग्वेद १/१६४/४६ ||
mantra we have a list including Agni, Indra and so on.
