ब्राह्मणस्य तु देहोऽयं न कामार्थाय जायते । इह क्लेशाय तपसे प्रेत्य त्वनुपमं
सुखम् ।। – महाभारत (१२.३२९.२२). अर्थ : ब्राह्मणका देह सुखोपभोगके लिए
उत्पन्न नहीं हुआ । इहलोकमें क्लेश भोगकर तपाचरण करनेके लिए ब्राह्मणका जन्म
हुआ है । ऐसा करनेपर ही जीवको निरुपम सुख प्राप्त होगा । इस शास्त्रवचनके
आधारपर यह कहा जा सकता है कि तप करने हेतु ही ब्राह्मण वर्णके लोगोंका जीवन
समर्पित था और है । सर्वप्रथम ब्राह्मण रुपी साधक जीव, साधना कर आत्मज्ञानी
बनता है, तत्पश्चात् अपने तपसे अर्जित फलको ...

The above Mahabharata verse says: The body of the Brahmana is not meant for
merrymaking. It is to be subjected to a lot of hard work, trials, so that
after death there will be incomparable bliss.

मनुष्याणां सहस्रेषु कश्चिद्यतति सिद्धये ।
यततामपि सिद्धानां कश्चिन्मां वेत्ति तत्त्वतः ॥ ३ ॥
