In support of the position that Badarayana and Vyasa are two different personalities, please read the book ‘Badarayana and Vyasa as Authors of the Brahmasutra’ by Sankaranarayanan.

Hare Krishna

If I remember right, Sri SSS too in his introduction to BSB, not categorically conclude that sUtrakAra bAdarAyaNa and vyAsa /krishna dvaipAyana (the author of mahAbhArata) are one and the same. The 'vyAsa' as an visheshaNa can be applied to bAdarAyaNa also as there were somany vyAsa-s as per purAna, he opines. bhAshyakAra bhagavatpAda nowhere equates these two personalities anywhere in prasthAna traya bhAshya hence there is no conclusive evidence to assert that shankara treated both are one and the same he further clarifies. While talking about the avatAra of jnAni-s in elite club (apAntaratamAs etc.), bhAshyakAra does mention about the name of krishna dvaipAyana vyAsa but he (shankara) does not mention here that he himself the sUtrakAra bAdarAyaNa. And he also observes that since whenever there is a mention about vyAsa, bhAshyakAra addresses him invariably as 'smrutikAra' and not as sUtra kAra in sUtra bhAshya, it is very difficult to conclude that bhArata karta vyAsa and sUtrakAra bAdarAyaNa both are one and the same. Apart from this, Sri SSS also mentions some western scholars name ( I don’t remember those names) who were of the opinion that vyAsa and bAdarAyaNa are two different personalities.
