[Advaita-l] purpose of celebrating Jayanti of our gurus / acharyas

Namaste,

Few months back, Sri.Mani Dravida Sastrigal came to Hyderabad and I had a 
good fortune of meeting this great scholar. He was giving discourse on vedanta
chintana, dharmAnuSTana and karma kANDa.  

In the middle of the discourse, he mentioned that we should perform 
the jayanthi / aaraadhana of our AchAryAs / gurus with devotion and pointed
out the reason by mentioning the 37th sUtra of samAdhi pAda from Patanjali Yoga Sutra.

वीतरागविषयं वा चित्तम् ॥ ३७ ॥

Hindi Commentary:


वीतरागता को जो उपलब्ध हो चुका है, उसका ध्यान करो। वीतराग वह है, जिसके सभी राग, आसक्तियाँ, आकांक्षाएँ शान्त हो चुके हैं। 
जो इन सभी के पार व परे जा चुका है, ऐसे व्यक्ति का ध्यान।

English Commentary:

Contemplate on the enlightened / divine personalities who are free from desires, attachments, calm & tranquil.  When we focus our mind who is 
peaceful, virtuous, our mind also gets stabilised, becomes calm & tranquil and becomes identical with theirs.
