Namaste
The legs going numb is due to nerves experiencing compression and it's
generally harmless and temporary . Its not due to blood circulation being
cut off or any such thing. Generally the fibular nerve responsible for
flexion of the foot is a key nerve that gets compressed in sukhasana. The
sciatic nerve too can experience compression near the piriformis region
since it's pressing on to the seat directly.

1. Make sure you sit on a relatively thicker cushioned seat than is usual,
this distributes pressure more uniformly.

2. In many cases, using a slight elevation at the buttocks relative to the
legs by using an appropriate extra cushion below the buttocks will give
significant relief.

If you are able to sit for 45 minutes now, by just experimenting with
different seats and cushions you will find that you have increased your
sitting practice to about 75 to 90 minutes without numbness .

The Vipassana people have experimented extensively with such options. You
can see the pics of their ergonomical cushions in the following links.

In the pics, you can see that the elevation under the buttocks is present
(we cannot also overdo this as it may be counterproductive).

You have to experiment a little with the above options to arrive at what
works for you.

Dear Kartik, "Is there some remedy to stop the legs from

In general when the kundalini is active in the body
and if you are sitting in meditation for 45-60 minutes, what happens to the
blood flow & the energy instead of going up, it goes down i..e it goes to
the feet and settles down there. This is not asleep, but you may call it as
numbness or moch. It happens automatically.

Once the meditation is completed, rather than getting up immediately, one
can keep a glass of water near by, so that you can sprinkle little on the
feet so that they comes to normal state in 3-5 mintues. Try this & hope it
will work

Blessed Patrons,

Sadar Pranam,

I am only able to sit for prayers in Sukhasana, cannot do sarvangasana
which is a panacea for blood flow.

After about 45 mins -to 1 hr my legs go to sleep (numbness) while in
Sukhasana, while the mind can still pray, the sleeping legs are a stopping
factor, I have to get up from my prayers and give the legs some rest and
then begin again.

Is there some remedy to stop the legs from falling asleep, some old wives
tale" or
"Gharelu Nuska".

Will the time period to sit in Sukhasana gradually increase by itself?

Any advise, help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Pranam,
