shrI rAmachandra in 'adhyAtma-rAmyANa' says:

विकल्प मायारहिते चिदात्मके अहंकार एष प्रथमः प्रकल्पितः ।
अध्यास एवात्मनि सर्वकारणे निरामये ब्रह्मणि केवले परे ॥

The inception of seed of creation in the form of 
'ahamkara' in brahman is itself called 'adhyAsa'.
