[Advaita-l] Sanskrit pronunciation question

एकमात्रो भवेद् ह्रस्वः द्विमात्रो दीर्घ उच्यते
त्रिमात्रस्तु प्लुतो ज्ञेयः व्यञ्जनञ्चार्द्धमात्रकम् ।। इति ।।
In the above prAtishAkhya shloka, how come a vyanjana is called ardhamAtra?
In that case does the shloka imply that
अ = 1 mAtra
आ = 2 mAtras
क् = 0.5 mAtra
In which case, contrary to my understanding, we get
क = 1.5 mAtra
का = 2.5 mAtras
I was assuming that ka and kA are one and two mAtras rather than 1.5 and
2.5 mAtras as suggested by the shloka.
I request clarification.
