Appayya Dikshitendra Jayanti Celebration on 14 October, 2019 in Srirangam
Sri Sankaragurukulam (Sringeri Matham, Srirangam).

It is known without any introduction that the Lord appeared Himself twice
in Kaliyuga as an Acharya instructing people in the shastras. He took the
form of a Sannyasi, Sri Adi Shankara Bhagavatpada, in one avatara and that
of a Grhastha Brahmana, Srimad Appayya Dikshitendra, in the other.
Dikshitendra was born in Adayappala Agrahara, Tiruvannamalai District,
Tamil Nadu in circa 1520 CE. As a meticulous practitioner of the Shrauta
Karmas he set an example for the brahmanas to practice Shrautam in the
prescribed way; as a scholar of the shastras he has contributed immensely,
with ease, many magna opera in every corner of his variegated vineyards of
the different Sastras- Vyakaranam, Purva Mimamsa, Advaita Vedanta and
Sivadvaita Vedanta; as a devotee of Lord Siva he has produced many
wonderful Stotra granthas that are a source of strength and comfort to
bhaktas for centuries. The contribution of Dikshitendra can never be
forgotten by any Astika who has heard of him and studied his works.

He is held in great esteem by all the Shankaracharyas of Sringeri.

It was the wish of Gurubhakta-shikhamani, Sastra-prasara-bhushana, late Sri
TK Balasubramanya Aiyar that all of us should express gratitude towards
Appayya Dikshitendra to the best of our ability. To facilitate this he
organized celebration of Appayya Dikshitendra Jayanti in Sri
Sankaragurukulam of Srirangam, the institution founded by him.

There is a published record of Dikshitendra Jayanti being celebrated in
Srirangam Sankaragurukulam on 5 October, 1941 in the Journal of Sri
Sankaragurukulam. On coming across it I had an ardent desire of having it
celebrated in Srirangam Sankara Matham and made a request to the
Dharmadhikari Sri Rangarajan sir regarding the same. He was very kind
enough to accept it and organize the Jayanti celebration in the Matham on
14 October 2019 (Vikari-samvatsaram, Kanya-maasa, Krishna-paksha,
Prathama-tithi as per the Tamil calendar). The utsavam is being organized
with the blessings of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Bharati Tirtha
Mahaswamigal and Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Vidhusekhara Bharati Swamigal
of Dakshinamnaya Sri Sarada Pitham, Sringeri.

Mrtyunjaya homam will be performed in the morning and a short lecture on
Dikshitendra will be delivered in the evening.

All devotees and humbly requested to take part in the Jayanti utsavam and
offer Guruseva to Dikshitendra and all our Acharyas.

सार्वजनीनमेवैतत् सर्वेषामास्तिकमहाजनानां यत् भगवान् सर्वमङ्गलाजानिः
दिविषद्भिः प्रार्थितः सन् सनातनस्य धर्मस्य रक्षणार्थं वेदान्तसिद्धान्तस्य
प्रचाराय च श्रीशंकरभगवत्पादरूपेण केरलेष्ववततारेति । यः परमेश्वरः
परमहंसपरिव्राजकाचार्यरूपधृक् निवृत्तिप्रधानं संन्यासाश्रमं परिजग्राह , स एव
परमेश्वरः पुनः यायजूकब्राह्मणरूपधृक् प्रवृत्तिप्रधानं गृहस्थाश्रमं परिगृह्य
भूमाववततार । द्रविडेषु लब्धजन्मा स महेशांशः लोके
श्रीमदप्पय्यदीक्षितेन्द्राभिख्यया प्रथामवाप । सर्वेषामपि
श्रौतस्मार्तकर्मणां स्वयमनुष्ठानपूर्वकं परेषामप्यनुष्ठापनेन ,
न्यायरक्षामण्याद्यद्वैतवेदान्तग्रन्थरचनेन , शिवभक्तिपथरक्षणेन च
दीक्षितेन्द्रैः कृतस्योपकारस्य निष्कृतिः न केनापि विस्मर्तुं शक्यत
आस्तिकजनेन । सर्वैरपि तेषु यथाशक्ति कार्तज्ञं प्रकाशनीयमिति धिया
गुरुभक्तिशिखामणयः , शास्त्रप्रसारभूषणाः ,
श्रीरङ्गस्थश्रीवाणीविलासमुद्रायन्त्रालयस्य श्रीरङ्गस्थश्रीशंकरगुरुकुलस्य च
स्थापकाः , श्री-टी-के-बालसुब्रह्मण्यार्याः श्रीदीक्षितेन्द्रजयन्तीमहोत्सवः
सर्वैरपि सभक्तिश्रद्धं समाचरणीय इत्यैच्छन् । दीक्षितेन्द्रजयन्तीमहोत्सवं च
ते सुन्दरतमेऽस्मिन् शारदाम्बाया मन्दिरे सवैभवं विदधुः ।

५-१०-१९४१-क्रिस्ताब्धे जयन्तीमहोत्सवोऽयं श्रीरङ्गस्थश्रीशंकरगुरुकुले
(सांप्रतश्रीरङ्गस्थश्रीशृङ्गेरीमठे) व्यधायि। पुनरपीदानीमस्निम् हायने
जयन्त्युत्सवोऽयं शृङ्गेरीजगद्गुरुश्रीचरणानां श्रीभारतीतीर्थमहास्वामिनां,
श्रीविधुशेखरभारतीस्वामिनां च अनुग्रहेण प्रचलिष्यतीति संजातकुतूहलाः स्मः।

विकारिनामसंवत्सरे कन्यामासे , कृष्णपक्षे , प्रथमायां तिथौ संपत्स्यते
(१४-१०-२०१९-दिनाङ्के) ।

अस्मिन्सन्दर्भे मृत्युञ्जयहोमः, तच्चरित्रविषयकोपन्यासश्च संपत्स्येते ।

नैकजन्मकृतसुकृतपरिपाकैकलभ्येऽस्मिन् महोत्सवे सर्वेऽप्यास्तिकाः सोत्साहं
सभक्तिश्रद्धं च समवेत्य यथाशक्ति गुरुसेवासपर्यां विधाय आत्मानं धन्यं
विधेयासुरिति सप्रश्रयं प्रार्थयामः ।
