Namaste all

"उक्ष्णो हि मे पञ्चदश साकं पचन्ति विंशतिम्। उताहमद्मि पीव इदुभा कुक्षी
पृणन्ति ...(Rg veda 10.86.14)

I got a question from a friend based on an old article in a Marxist
pamphlet mocking the Indian tradition of never slaughtering cows.

The above Rg vedic verse it is claimed says that beef (ukShNa) is to be
cooked and offered in certain vedic yajnas to Indra.

I understand the word ukShNa only means any strength-giving food which can
but not necessarily always refers to meat and sonthe Marxist claim of
ox-slaughter in Vedas is wrong.

I was told that Sayana bhAShya translates ukShNa as pumpashuM or male
animal.

Any clarity on this particular verse is appreciated.

Also found this on the net.
