The highest goal of human being is to attain Moksha. This is the
point of no return to this cycle of repeated births and deaths.
Before attaining this state, that is consequent upon Atma Jnana,
certain sadhanas for the purification of mind and subsequent fitness
are prescribed in our Sastras. Some of these sadhanas have to be
pursued only after getting initiation from a Self-realised Guru.
One amongst the sadhanas is to perform all the prescribed duties
with a spirit of surrender to Bhagavan without hankering for results,
and without any trace of ego.
Man's energy generally gets dissipated by brooding over a dead past
and fancying the unborn future. Both of these are impediments to
man's progress in any walk of his life, and more so, for a seeker of
liberation.
Also, vacillating between hope and despair, man loses the
immediate moments given to him to act and achieve.
Hence the seeker, while performing his duties, should avoid
unnecessary speculation. He must abstain from attachment to the
fruits of his works, because such attachment can bog him down.
The state of performing actions with equanimity of the mind
towards success and failure itself is a yoga, says Bhagavan in Srimad
Bhagavad Gita.
yogasthaH kuru karmANi saN^ga.n tyaktvA dhana~njaya .
sid.hdhyasid.hdhyoH samo bhUtvA samatva.n yoga uchyate ..
To work thus with equipoise, all actions become worship to God.
We bless everyone to understand this, and put it into practice for
achieving higher ends in life.
