Sujalji - PraNAms.
Once you have a clear understanding of Vedanta that is the essence of tat tvam asi without any doubts, the meditation is constant contemplation on the truth that is understood as paroxajnaanam to recognize or more correctly abide in the knowledge that I am Brahman. In that understanding - one has to see I am a non-doer in spite of all the doing required in the transactional world.
Until one understand one has to follow the rules and once one has understood, one has to adopt the rule to suit the situation.
Dattatreya says in Avadhuta Geeta - aham dhyaataa parma dhyeyam akhanDam khanDate katham?
How can you divide that I am a meditator and this is to be meditated on, that which is division-less.
Meditation is a constant awareness that I am all in all - in spite of the apparent plurality of the transactional world .
The Live and the World - all become vibhuti - of the Lord or to be more accurate of the Self that I am.
Hence one is in meditation all the time while still transacting in the world.
It is helpful one can take the name of the Lord - or any other symbol - to keep in the mind to provide the mind an venue to divert the mind to getting involved (emotionally) in the activities of the world and to remind oneself that He is in all and all is Him - In essence Bhakti helps the mind to follow what the intellect has understood, otherwise the mind gets dissipated in the habitual involvement - that prevents one from abiding in the knowledge.
Study of the scriptures, constant shravana, manana, discussions, reading, teaching... etc on the absolute truth are all means to keep the mind in that understanding - Anytime one feels the sense of pride or ego getting hurt - these are red signals to withdraw the mind from emotional indulgence.
Swami Paramarthanandaji uses Acronyms to make us remember - he call the sanyaasa as reduction of PORT - possessions, obligations, relations, and transactions - one has to reduce PORT to the extent possible. External sanyaasa helps to reduce PORT. otherwise one has to make extra effort.
Hope this helps

Namaste Sri Venkatesh ji,
I understand what you say, but sanyAsa is a state of mind. It is absence of
desires. karma kANDa is negated in advaita. Besides there were advaitins
who have not taken sanyAsa, so advaita is not only reserved for sanyAsins
though sanyAsa is highly recommended. Sri Ramana Maharshi didnt perform any
karma kANDa, besides dosha is possible only when one has to live as a
householder, but if your mind is vairAgI, then you should quit kAmya
kamrma-s. If you give too much importance to anything, then when time comes
your mind will never become ready to quit it. So it has to be now or never.
If you think after retirement I will take sanyAsa, it will never happen. Pl

OM covers everything, fruits of karma, and gAyatrI japa. All tytpes of
karma abd their fruits ends in samAdhi.
I know that Sringeri SankarAchArya has given a lots of importance to karma
kANDa for Brahmins. Sticking to vedic way of life is good. I acknowledge
your concern and appreciate what you are trying to say. Yes I am a Brahmin,
but I have been asked to simply chant OM, and if there is any dosha, my
guru will take care of it. I am safe.
This thread is started so that I wanted to know that apart from doing nitya
karma, does anyone meditates. Trust me, I am not trying to contradict you
or down playing the importance of karma kANDa. All I am saying is that I am
lucky :)
