[Advaita-l] Previous Kali Yugas in Shastras?

Santhosh Rao was asking about the 'previous' Kali yuga-s.  We admit four yugas, as a set, keep occurring in a rotation. This is called one chatur-yuga. He was asking about the Kali yuga of  the previous chatur yugas.  Is there any talk about the kali yuga of the earlier chatur yuga in any of the scriptural works.  I think one possible place is the Briihad Yoga Vasishtha where there is mention of 'many Ramayanas and Mahabharatas have happened before'. This I guess is in the BhushunDa akyayika.


Ø     Yes, he is asking about the events in previous kali yuga /s, events like : rAmAyaNa in treta yuga, mahAbhArata in dvApara yuga etc. have been accounted and referred in kali yuga but there is no mention of any such event  in previous kali yuga/s why and if it is happened in one of the previous kali yuga-s why it has not been recorded and available for us is his question…am I right understanding your doubt Sri Santosh prabhuji??  For that I guessed the answer and said there will be talking about only bygone yuga events excluding the events occurred in present yuga i.e. kali yuga.  The talk about the kali yuga events & other yuga evens might have taken place  in other yuga-s again leaving then existing  yuga.

Ø    I wondered and asked my guruji a question about list of brahma jnAni-s in the br. Up. How come names like bhagavat pAda, ramaNa maharshi, list of jagadguru-s whom we consider utmost Atma jnAni-s not finding the place in this list if the Upanishads are  yugAteeta / kaalaateeta apaurusheya text ??  why it is restricted to some rishi parampara names when we have somany Atma jnAni-s (in kali yuga shankara, gaudapaada, ramaNa etc. etc.) who are worthy to be found place in this list ??  How Upanishad ignored their names when the cycle of yuga-s finding the same characters / events again and again ??

In the shastras we see events from previous yugas in previous eons described in detail, why don't we see any events from previous kali yugas similarly described? Is it because in kali yuga there are no righteous people left to record and pass down tradition? Or is there another reason?
