In the Shiva Sahasra Naama of the Mahabharatha there occurs this name:
The first word: *कर्णिकारमहास्रग्वी means 'Shiva is adorned with a large
garland made of karnikAra flowers.' *
*In Tamil Sangam literature the flower is called 'Kondrai' and Shiva is
said to be wearing a garland of this flower. *

There is this verse in the Srimadbhagavatam where Krishna wears the
KarNikAra flower as a ear decor:
The Kondrai is called konnai in Kerala and is very popular for use in
temples.
