In the Srimadbhagavatam is a description of Shiva seated in front of
Sanaka, etc. Narada.. in the mode of Brahma upadesha:   While describing
Shiva's bodily decoration, the Bhagavatam says:  He was adorned with the
Bhasma, danDa, jaTa and (animal) skin - all that are dear to ascetics,
tapasvin-s.  The word 'taapasa' is  found in the Manusmriti, Brihadaranyaka
Upanishad, etc.
