In my opinion, I don't think that applies here.  Mandana Mishra doesn't 
just want Shankaracharya to e.g. learn shrautasutras.  He wants him to 
_practice_ karma.  For that purpose, Mandana would be an appropriate guru 
and due full respect as a guru.
