Says the Chandogya Upanishad:
६,३.२ ॥
At the time of creation, Brahman resolved that 'I will enter all bodies in
the form of the jiva'.
The jiva in all bodies is the Supreme Brahman.
For this Upanishad there is a 13th/14th century Advaitin Narayanasrama's
Deepika for a portion. There is also a commentary by the 17th century
Advaitin, Upanishad Brahmayogin.
The Upanishadic premise that the jiva in every body is the Supreme Being is
stated in the Skanda Purana thus:
In a hymn to Shiva the sages say:

The above is a rephrasing of a famous mantra found in many places like
Rigveda, Mahanarayana Upanishad of the Yajurveda, etc:
Those who know You, the Brahman, as their very Self.
The soul cannot be destroyed by anything.
This is akin to the Bhagavad Gita 2nd chapter verse which states the nature
of the Atma:
In the Chandogya Upanishad, 7th Chapter, Narada asks: 'On what is Para
Brahman resting?' Sage Sanatkumara answers: स्वे महिम्नि - It rests on Its
own Glory.
The Pure Consciousness, Shiva, who pervades the three worlds in the form of
the Jiva.
This is a dialogue between Brahma and Narada in the Seshasaayyupaakhyana of
the Nagara khanda in the Skanda Purana.
