Namaste Venkat ji
These are quite remarkable verses from the yogavAshiShTha. Sri Ramana
Maharshi used to often quote three of them to illustrate how a jIvanmukti
conducts his life.
jñātvānasi sarveṣāṃ bhāvānāṃ samyaganvaram |
yathēcchasi tathā dṛṣṭyā lōkē vihara rāghava ||
"You have perfectly understood the inner nature of all things.
Now, see the world as you wish, and roam in it, O Raghava."
kṛtrimollāsa-harṣasthaḥ kṛtrimodvēga-garhaṇaḥ |
kṛtrimārambha-saṃrambho
lōkē vihara rāghava ||
"Remain in the world, O Raghava, with artificial (or pretended) joy and
delight, artificial (or pretended) anger and criticism, and artificial (or
pretended) enthusiasm and excitement."
(The keyword is "kRtrima".)
āśāpāśaśatonmuktaḥ samaḥ sarvāsu vṛttiṣu |
bahih prakṛtikāryastho lōkē vihara rāghava ||
Free from hundreds of desires and bondages, remain equanimous in all
situations.
Externally engaged in worldly activities, yet internally untouched, thus
roam in the world, O Raghava."
Sri Rama's grief etc., was merely "kRtrima" (lit. artifice, "as though").
These 3 verses from the Yoga Vashishtha were included in Sri Ramana
Maharshi's compliation named "sUkti-sudhA" (or uLLadu nArpadu anubandham in
Tamil).
