The word jnAna is used for both svarUpa-jnAna and vRtti-jnAnam. The latter idea is as I understand not dealt with adequately by SSS ji

The former is nitya.

The latter is an event which occurs when a pramANa is used and it goes away and is no longer required because the avidyA w r t that viShaya has been removed by the vRtti. So the vRtti's non-continuance is not a problem for mainstream vedAnta which holds that removal of the veil of avidyA occurs by pramA (vRtti).

In SSS ji method however, jnAnAbhAva *has* to mean the absence of vRtti-jnAnam because everyone agrees svarUpa-jnAnam is eternal.

There is no dispute on that front.
But there is a problem with that idea of SSS ji because if jnAna-abhAva is just absence of jnAna-vRtti, then there will be jnAnAbhAva even after the jnAna-vRtti falls away.

But both vidyAvanta and avidyAvanta is within the sphere of vyavahAra only hence asat only. You wrong understanding part of rope as snake in definitely there in your intellect so the correct knowledge of rope has to happen in that intellect only. Both are definitely vrutti-s only one is avidyA vrutti and another is vidyAvrutti. When the svarUpa jnAna enters our intellect the adhyAsa goes away. And there is no special effort or subsequent effort is required to get svarUpa jnAna here. That is what Sri SSS says mOksha means only bandha nivrutti not vidyA prApti as vidyA is our svarUpa no need for any special effort to get that svarUpa jnAna. Phalatvaprasiddhirap mOkshasya bandhanivruttimAtrApekshA...like getting rid of illness and getting the natural and healthy body. In Atman there is bandha sthiti nor mOksha sthiti all these are within adhyAsa vyavahAra. Na hi vastutaH muktAmuktatva visheshOsti says bhAshyakAra. So, in this scenario Advaita jnAnaM manOvrutti mAtraM can happen only at the antaHkaraNa level which helps us to see the gold in place of bangle/ring, clay in place of pot/jar.
