[Advaita-l] Fwd: [advaitin] what is abhava?

SSSS in Sugama (section 40ff) explains smriti rupah or specifically, smṛtirūpaḥ paratra pūrva dṛṣṭa-āvabhāsah, as pertaining to lokiah adhyasa not adhyatma adhyasa.


  *   Section 40ff!!??  do we have English translation of this Sanskrit work??  If yes, kindly share with me.  Yes, shuti-rajata, dviteeya Chandra both are talking about loukika adhyAsa due to antaHkaraNa dOsha.

A week ago or so, I posted a lovely response on this thread from Prasanth Netiji in this regard. No response from that posting has been forthcoming.


  *   😊  Some laughing buddha-s only have sarcastic laugh at it and ignore it, some logicians are do not want to look at it as it is not based on their favorite  logic but on mere lOkAnubhava 😊 But certainly they want to have answer to all their dry logical questions and objections like barren woman’s son’s growth, education, marriage etc.  that too in ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ pattern 😊


If Bhasyakara uses causal or material terms relating to avidya or adhyasa, they must be taken as figurative only despite mvv's best efforts to prove otherwise.


  *   Though bhAshyakAra categorically not talked anything about upAdAna for the adhyAsa, vArtikakAra talked about it as per the references provided.  But Sri Vittala shAstry ( direct disciple of Sri SSS) clarifies this upAdAna which is talked by vArtikakAra is in the sense of agrahaNa (jnAnAbhAva) only and not in the way what vyAkhyAnakAra attributes as 4th type of avidyA i.e. mUlAvidyA.

There is no winning this debate with mvv. SSSSji tried for 40 years.


  *   But he never ever taken a step back in doing so.  We will do our bit as Sri SSS’s view points are lOkAnubhava sammata vAda.

However, I find the debate good for manana and keeping some logic circuits functioning.


Ø     As long as these debates are based on lOkAnubhava and shruti sammata yukti-s we can happily participate in it.  But I am sorry to say the debates with big big nomenclature of avidyA/adhyAsa etc. severely lacking these basic needs AFAIK.  Most of the times I feel like we are having the discussions with mere logicians and NOT with vedAntins.

Ø    Just my observation no offence is intended to anyone in this esteemed group.
