(Around the beginning of the month, a nugget of Wisdom from the Jagadguru may be posted
on the Chaturamnaya list : http://lists.advaita-vedanta.org/cgi-bin/listinfo/chaturamnaya )
A man must remain humble even as he progresses well in life. If he
remains humble, he will be happy. Everyone will be pleased with him.
On the other hand, no one likes a person who is without
humility. People will in fact look for opportunities to blame him.
If no blame can be thrust on him, they would even resort to false
accusations to trouble him. We often see such instances. That is
why our elders say that man must always be humble.
Even if a person struggling in poverty remains humble, noble
people will come forward to help him whenever the opportunity
arises.
Such being the case, if a prosperous person remains respectful and
humble, he will become the cynosure of the people’s admiration.
Without understanding this subtlety, if a person follows his own
whim and blindly leads an erratic life with scant regard for the
wealth he is blessed with, then his downfall is certain in due
course. The wealthy yet arrogant person will not understand until
his downfall happens.
ऐश्वर्यमदमत्तो हि नापतित्वा विबुध्यते ।
Our forefathers have cautioned us along these lines.
ऐश्वर्यतिमिरं चक्षुःपश्यञ्चापि न पश्यति ।
पश्चाद्विमलतां याति दारिद्यगुलिकाञ्जनैः ॥
A person though possessing eyesight, cannot see if he is deluded
by wealth. Only when poverty strikes does he see.
Our blessings for everyone to understand this well and remain ever
humble, regardless of the enormous wealth one owns.
