NaiyAyikAs hold that abhAva is pratyaksha-gamya. MImAmsakAs hold that
abhAva is anupalabdhi-pramANa-gamya.

In response to their position, it is said by VPS that in both cases
dharmI-pratiyOgi-jnAna requirement will lead to vyAghAta in the case of
jnAna-abhAva.

Our position of jnAna-abhAva being known through
vyatirekI-anumAna/arthApatti or (arthApatti+anupalabdhi) ensures that this
pratiyOgI-jnAna requirement is not present. So, for us, ajnAna is the
sAdhana/upapAdya in vyatirekI-anumAna/arthApatti and jnAna-abhAva is
sAdhya/upapAdaka.
